A bit of luck at the start, but this race showed some steady progress. But luck for button though :-(
I must say after the water leak on friday I thought: here we go again. But after the race :-D On equal foot with Williams at this track, can't wait for the rest of the season.

I'm sure they'll be able to get more out of the update with some time to fine tune things, I think there's a little more to come, but yes it's definitely and encouraging sign that they were able to have decent pace. I still saw some heavy fuel saving towards the end, the Mercedes and Ferrari are still more efficient.

Come on guys...please stay a bit realistic. I know this is difficult after such a result. But if we look at the pace, we need to consider the free tire change and the many crashes. In a normal race they could not hold the Williams and without the Ferraris and Ves crashing, they would still fight with the Haas. It is still a long way for anything with power on a power track. But maybe McLaren has a hand now on the Williams or FI on tracks with more downforce.

yes it might be the reason,
gear ratios are fixed during the season I don't know why Mclaren have chosen such long ratios despite of knowledge about Honda power weakness, most of circuits are slower than spa.
does anyone have speed and revs from on boards to calculate gear ratios?

Great drive for ALO for 7th, the car come alive in S2 every lap so I expect more progress for Mclaren after Monza. Again bud luck for JB, hopefully he will get a good result in the next race.

That's nonsense. In fact, Mclaren could argue they were unlucky this race with Button taken out and a safety car, which negates their fast starts.

ALO legitimately kept two Williams and a Ferrari behind him on a massive power track

i mentioned about both williams and mclaren running a bigger rear wing and we all saw both williams and mclaren had hard time on the straight, no wonder bottas could not overtake alonso, both these team ran bigger rear wings.c ompared to redbull and mercedes, hopefully mclaren will bring an ultra skinny rear wing to monza, low DF is the way to be quick around spa and monza

am i not right, i told u william and mclaren going for extra downforce but its not the ideal setup in spa.

There is reasoning behind why Mclaren opted for higher downforce levels.
