McLaren MP4-31 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

diffuser:
I don't see that
Look at the top flap closest to the nose and the different shape along to the outside.

I hope that's just the Montreal Wing bolted on. Looks pretty big compared to the other Rear Wings seen already.

Been there since Day1.
They were trying to make it look cute...

I think that Dip creates downforce and the dimples are channels for the air to escape and create stronger ridges of air maybe even vortices. Beyond that, I don't know.

I get the impression that McLaren don't want to create track specific aero. That they just prefer to put all their energy into perfecting the overall downforce and aero efficiency(package).

I believe that it is the same front wing just that it is set at its lowest position for transport.

Fernando ran a low DF Rear Wing and no Monkey Seat in FP1. Don't know if it was on the Car for the whole Session but after the Red Flag he ran it with Red Flow Viz.

At the exit of pit i saw MP4-31 and the TR from the back....it seems Honda has a lot less cooling needs than 2015 Ferrari.

Dont want to rain on your parade, but alonso's best top speed was done with low df wing which didnt improve his lap time.
Button's best top speed was done on a lap where he got a tow for most of the straight from Bottas.
We just have to wait and see till Q3 if theres any real improvement made.

Remember that Ferrari themselves last year had an innovative louvred radiator layout, so without that TR might need additional cooling.

Off topic I know but just thought it relevant.
