Tires

Post

Do each team that run michelin tires, have different specs because the differences in the car. You couldn't put a Renault Michelin Tire to a Mclaren car because the tire does not take account of the design of the Mclaren car.
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

I don't think so. I mean Michelin makes several compounds available to all but not different for each team/car.

Almost certain they don;t have their own tyres, they have to design the suspension to use the given tyre designs and compunds to their optimum. They used to benifit from having loads more data over Ferrari and Bridgestone, whilst ferrari enjoyed a tyre designed specifically for them (Minardi had to lump it!)

Its all down to how the teams utilise the availible tyre design. Hence in one way Mclaren is helping Renault beat them when they supply data to Mitchelin as they get better tyres. Well thats what my understanding is anyway, although i know theres loads of agreements between teams and the tyre manufacture to cover this.

I'm far from certain, but I do think the teams use different constructions and the same compounds.

I'm almost certain that though there are no customised tyres per team, teams do have a choice available to them from the range.

Thats what I make out of pre-race press releases from the tyre companies saying "3 types of $brand tyres" are available to $brand teams this weekend. A team has only 2 compounds to choose from, while the 2 compounds might be different from that available to another team.

If you compare Renault and Mclaren's tyre, actually its same. From the same company(Michelin)....impossible for Michelin to know your car design and make the best tyre for you only(it would be unfair as other teams get the same compound but you get the best)to be fair nothing suppose to be different, besides Michelin makes the best tyre for all teams using their tyre(all 4 tires of my car Michelin  )

i think all compounds are available to the teams using that paticular brand of tyres. but maybe a paticular compound that may be custom made for a paticular team. if u remeber toyota. they said they worked with bridgestone on a softer compound for thier tyre heating issue
