:wtf: :wtf: :?: :?: :?:

edit.
Confirmed on his facebook:

I took my decision on Monday evening. After reflecting for a day, the first people I told were Vivian and Georg (Nolte, from Nico’s management team), followed by Toto.
“The only thing that makes this decision in any way difficult for me is because I am putting my racing family into a toughsituation. But Toto understood. He knew straight away that I was completely convinced and that reassured me. My proudest achievement in racing will always be to have won the world championship with this incredible team of people, the Silver Arrows.

He announced it in front of the media at Brackley, it's 100% real.

Also being reported on Sky

I guess the fact he`d achieved what he set out to do (won the world championship) and the fact he recently had a kid has made him reflect on things. He doesn`t want/need all the stress and pressure anymore and he certainly doesn`t need the money.....fair play to him!

Now the question is: Who will be Hamiltons team mate, if he`s still there?

Wow, just seen this on the BBC and thought it must be a joke. Not even going to defend his title, WTF ?

This throws the drivers market wide open again, those who have just signed - they'll all be leafing through their contracts looking for a get out, bring Jensen back lol :)

Wow indeed.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

WHAT IS THIS? Why dude, why? I never liked your racing to be honest .... but why now? Why not to try and defend your title? Is this somehow related to the ''incident'' in the last race with Lewis?

Come on dude, I can understand the fact that you've been racing for 25 years and you want to spend some time with your family, all clear but come on ....

OMG, what a bomb !

- What a hell? That doesn't make sense at all. F1 is even bigger circus than I thought. Did they put a gun to his head figuratively speaking on top of other BS?

- It can't be all his choice, can it? Rosberg = not a good world champion according to person running this asylum Ecclestone.

- Another good reason to skip '17 season. With Ferrari and Red Bull drivers choices Rosberg - Hamilton was one of the few redeeming qualities of F1.

That came really as a surprise! Funny how people were speculating all sorts of things about hamilton and now this :wtf:

All in all surprising but in the end understandable move. If he wouldnt just had signed a new contract for two years... I wonder if the team has any means to prevent their drivers from just stepping down (except $$$ of course)

So now, Wehrlein?

I don't understand the conspiracy theories but going out at the top a very wealthy man is as good a place to leave the sport as any.
