So, the first time this year that Vandoorne outqualified Alonso. A good sign! Since the last race he is considerably closer to Alonso in practices and qualifying. Let's hope he can find that little extra bit in the race. Sometimes I miss that real fighting spirit in the race. It seems so calculated when sometimes you just have to go and (try to) take that place. It's the eagerness that for instance Hamilton and Alonso do have.

Well done to stoff but Alonso did have traffic. Anyway I like to celebrate young talent, they are the future after greats like Alonso go. Anyway looks like Alonso liked what he heard about what McLaren plans to do with engines next year at a dinner

Does anyone else agree Alonso probably has a car set up for the race knowing he was going to get penalised anyway? Food for thought

Man, really... Alonso may be super competitive but that doesn't mean he's stupid. Do you think he would like to get Vandoorne out of Q3 while he will start last anyway ? This would "harm" the team. Of course, he wouldn't do that (let alone he was stuck in heavy traffic). Also, he wasn't required to drive at all the car in Q2. He could just set a lap that's 107% within Q1's fastest time and call it a day (and again he would be "outqualified" by Stoffel, yeeha?). However, not only he didn't do that but he gave a great show putting that McLaren on "pole" in Q1. Really positive to see the chassis being good at least.

The specification of the Alonso 3 engine suffered damage when the gearbox was broken. I post the news in the engine forum.
It is very likely that Alonso ran with specification 2

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised unfortunately

But it is not because Honda as they don't make the gearbox.

Vandoorne was 2.6 off pace and slower than 2016 pole whit narrow cars.
Mostly due to Honda.

Yup shame Alonso got traffic but alreast it happened when he's position wouldn't make any difference with penalty. Hopefully a good start and some havoc rain can volt him back up there

Indeed. Maybe if Alonso hadn't got traffic he could have gone a couple of tenths faster but anyway still a good effort from the Belgian

I will put my balls on fire if the Belgian finish the race infront of Alonso.
