Never watched an Indy 500. Kind of looking forward to it. I hope Alonso finishes the race ok.

I don't think anyone expected such a strong performance from Alonso.

Scott Dixon, that could have very easily been his head. Red flag.

Fantastic start from Alonso! He and Rossi look like they can sail off into the distance and have a showdown at the end for the win here. That red flag bunches it up again though. Huuuge crash for Scott Dixon, unbelievable that he walked away unhurt.

Is the chat working for you? Does not work on my side...

Horrible crash...

The next pit stops should be close...and interesting with the bunched up field.

Chat times out for me also. Race restart Alonso pits from the lead, this is the first time I've watched Indycar ever

Edit.. The drivers heads sit quite high in the cockpits, they don't look as protected as the F1 design.

It does seem to work though, evidently by Dixon's crash:

Alonso currently in 4th place, sits in the front group and looks to have excellent pace.

He just needs to get his act together on restarts. He's really strong on race pace, but always seem to lose out on restarts.

Alonso back in the lead right before another Caution. lots of yellow flagging through crashes and bits of the cars flying off.

Fuel strategy is likely going to determine who will win.

Seems like he did get it together on the last restart. If no bad luck hits him he can definitely win.

Hunter-Reay out with engine failure. Worrying for Honda, but perhaps good for Alonso, as Hunter-Reay really looked favourite for the win. Alonso really has a shot here, barring engine failure. Surely not...

If he pits now he can get away with just one more stop, can't he?
