It seems like RB is not here to mess around, it could actually be a 1-2, especially with the grip problems that Vettel is dealing.
Of course I wouldn't be surprised if he took pole, FP3 will make it more clear, but in the long run RB is on another planet, and Ferrari is on par with Mercedes which is really shocking.
I'm wondering whether Vettel tested so much the S compound because they're thinking of one stop strategy, although to be frank ,Hamilton seemed much more comfortable on S.

In some ways, RB winning won't be too worrying for Ferrari or Mercedes. From Vettel and Hamilton's perspective, they are more interested in where each other finishes. Both will see RB's performance here as an outlier and unlikely to be a harbinger of a change of fortunes.

But interesting that Vettel fastest overall in the first sector; I don't think you'd be fastest in any sector if there wasn't potential in the car.

It can go both ways. If RedBull splits them, it could be very costly. Imagine Vettel winning with the best Mercedes 4th. That would be 13 points.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

Ferrari seems a bit off. I wonder if they'll get things sorted for qualification. Mclaren doesn't look as competitive as I thought they would be.

Hence their positions relative to each other. If it's RB 1 and 2 then both Vettel or Hamilton would be happy in third.

On the other hand - the RedBulls could take the victory and second, leaving Vettel and Hamilton to fight over p3/4, which would reduce any deficit to 3 points either way, instead of 7.

I kinda think Vettel needs to take a big points delta away here; I think the majority of races thereafter favour Mercedes and - presuming no dnfs - he needs to get ahead of the bulls with Lewis behind.

Kinda strange why Vettel spend more time on soft tyres, isn`t it ?
Maybe in order to have an one stop race for taking a penalty due to a new turbo ???...

And some sims laps comparatives after FP2 : Lewis times seems to be on par with Ricci coz on the second stint he used the same used US tyres and went to the pits mid sim for some FW adjustments ...

I'd be shocked if that was the case, because this is probably the 2nd worst (Monaco being #1) track on the calendar to fight through the grid on.
