Alpine A523

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

New mirrors imaged. Sidepod intakes are also a different shape as per @Blackout

The sidepod opening look narrower vertically and wider horizontally. Plus the lower plane of the sidpod opening comes further forward.

The letterbox inlets were there from the start in the launch spec A522 last year, so it's come full circle after the development.

But the the top lip is swept backwards & the bottom one forwards, following the trend set by RB last year and copied by MCL, AM etc.
This team is mainly following trends in aero since 9 or 10 seasons, except 2 or 3 new fancy designs. Before that they pioneered much more trends than now.

Looks like the slide geometry has changed as well? Could easily be the light, but the outer edge seems more ridged... bit similar to the change AMR made in Canada

This is similar to the current Mercedes inlet.

In the AF credited picture you can see JUST and almost behind the top of brake caliper sightline that the lower lip of entry has now been brought forward along the tub to make the lower extend further than the top plane.

Very different, in my view to MB, that with overarching remnants of midwing for top entry surface.

+1 First instance of underside waterslides?

Narrator: "It wasn't."

Looks like they've just squared it off similar to the Ferrari sidepods in this area.

The Enstone team in Singapore introduces a metal kit on the front wing to strengthen the front wing. Is this an intervention to complete the assembly of the profiles or the adaptation to the Technical Directive TD018?

ah sorry, the current Alpine and the current Merc are completely different. I was referrging to the launch spec A522 (last year) and the current Merc which both have the overbite inlet.

Taller mousehole, rear brake duct winglet cascade, more aggressive louvres in preparation for Mexico

Mousehole comparison - photos pulled from Fabrega

New mousehole more rounded and larger radius at the leading side of the mousehole. Taller as well - extends much further up the diffuser sidewall.
