Race thread locking

Most of the threads are dominated by snipes and people are missing very little. The thread is predominantly a spot for people to swing their bags at one another. The team threads are basically the sequels.

This forum would be a great service to technical discussion if we just had sticky threads about cars and technical subjects. Everything about team, driver performance can work in individual threads created by people. It would be easier for mods to lock those topics and spot patterns of divisive topics and control the flare ups amongst the people that can’t keep it on SM. It would be easier to moderate a bad thread than constantly trying to filter a single thread.


Discord is good for people that want to talk live with others about the race. The thread here is just a more cumbersome way to do it and I suspect it’s driven by the idea that it’s more in the public domain.

Why were you checking and posting in the race thread then?

Also alternate discussion forums are also easily found on google, not sure how that is relevant to the initial discussion. I don’t think the idea was to drive traffic away from this site.

Mainly because fanbase B doesnt agree with fanbase A and that variable A and variable B to Z are factors in the discussion of why fanbase B's driver isnt stepping up to the mark. You can scroll down the forum and pick out multiple threads exactly along those lines.
It would require a vast change in the way the forum was ran and moderated.

As you said, the discord group only works for those who are watching the race live. You go and join the group now and go re-read the Miami discussion and it would make no sense at all as there would be little context of what the discussion was about.

The discord group has its merits, and I find it a good wat to 'watch along' with people of likeminded nature as fans of the sport. it allows for a bit discussion in real time with like minded fans where you wouldnt get the same sat in front the TV by yourself.

However, thats not going to please everyone so you will naturally see some discussion in the race thread of the race events. So the bearing is on the poster to ensure theres plenty of context in the post to keep it 'valuable' to the thread and not chit-chatty.

Im not sure if the forum software allows, im sure it will, but maybe a pinned post at the top of each forum page promoting the option to join the discord channel for in race discussion. 1 post in a typical 30-40 page thread is easily missed.

I check a lot of threads I don’t post in, just to peep sometimes. Doesn’t mean I rely on the race thread for info about the race, I actually watch the race. race thread seems an unreliable way to read what happened across the race properly anyway, it’s skewed by people with agendas.
