Max has gone 14 wins this season now... Was the record 13 by Vettel or did Max break that already in 2022?
Max won 15 last year. Quite obvious that he will break his own record this year, given how many races we have now. 19 wins still achievable. Imagine that.

It's from Karun after laps to the grid before the race

Interesting to see the tyre's structure in tread gauge opened up there. You can see the "structural" lines exist even where it's undamaged, and not pulled out of it's original form.

It really needs comparable (from say RB and likes of Ferrari) to see if there's significant difference, that'd be interesting.

Outside edge, from high lateral seems to be OK. Innermost looks to have suffered from severe scrub, possibly from inside radius tyre position on a corner dragging it across surface through geometry effect from camber, akerman etc.

It does give a picture, in isolation, of a more critical reason why the McL chassis has relatively poor deg though. As noted above, you'd get much value from seeing them in comparison to same mileage RB example.

Agreed. But it’s rare to a see a like for like/side by side comparison. The track is so abrasive that even 2 laps extra on the soft would have shown a totally different wear.
MCL tyre life post update seems to have improved considerably but I suspect it still isn’t on par with RB19.

if it was used for the lap to the grid, I guess it's the worst set of tyres McLaren had available. So something around 15 laps old.

Isn't that "graining"?

Don't think so. They usually refer to "graining" as the tread compound that comes off tben sticking to the other parts of the the tyre by rolling across tread face, to then give sub optimal lateral traction by effectively putting a rolling component between tread face and track. Notice the outer edge is clean and able to work as intended.

This looks like severe scrub damage, more likely generated by non adhesion while being pulled across the track predominantly sideways. Think that strong akerman geometry, predominantly manifested on innermost tyre during cornering, to try and pull the chassis into the radius with "mechanical" grip could be the origin of this.

Why it's interesting here is (although I've noted there's not a good comparator) is McL desire to improve slow speed cornering response. It maybe that as a consequence of chasing this attribute that we can see this effect. Everything has a compromise, this may be where they're chasing that aggressively.

Number of laps is insignificant in this case, I believe, as it shows geometry characteristic in it's wear. That maybe there in less obvious "show" with all their tyres, just most visible in the extreme in that photo.

It's the type of effect that differentiate between chassis performance, but not often on display so readily.

He had 15 in 2022. I wouldn't be surprised to see him surpass this in the remaining 5 GPs. It's really only Perez's streak of form at the beginning of the year and the Singapore mess that stopped him from sweeping the season.

Perez won 2 races. 1 because Max’ car crapped out on him (stopped on track) in qualy causing him to start from p15 and the other because a poorly timed SC caused him to loose the lead. That was the only on merit win by Perez imho. And even that involved a factor of luck. But you have to be there to be in a position to have that count. Without that and the Singapore woes it could perhaps indeed have been a sweep. Allthough the others now are closing in, slightly hard to say as Qatar was such an odd race with the conditions and the mandated 3 stops on almost mandated laps.

This can't even be considered a violation!

Russell went far off the track losing time, not gaining! The track limits violations had mainly to do with Turns 12-13! So I don't see the point of the FIA looking into it really...

It's as if giving Alonso a penalty for track limits for going off track at Turn 2
The white line is the track limits. Russell crossed it - therefore slam dunk violation
You can't apply the penalty retroactively though. Once they let it go during the race it's over. Russell was clearly doing some extreme tyre management at the end. If he knew he had a penalty he would've approached it very differently and Leclerc would never have gotten close. Track limit penalties need to be imposed in real time.
Didn't they impose penalties retroactively at Austria because Alonso and Aston Martin started crying??

On another note, this whole thing of giving out penalties and B&W flags even when drivers go over the white line and lose time is simply ridiculous! There's no point deleting times if the driver isn't gaining something! Russell for example lost a bit the rear which took him out wide and completely off the track...what's the point in deleting his time there and giving him a B&W flag??

Verstapen too on his fastest lap in Qualifying clearly went over the white line at Turn 12 but clearly it was too much to ask from the FIA to delete such a laptime... =D>

Don't remember, regardless what happened in Austria it should be in real time.

Ver wasn't even close to TL in T12 on his fastest lap.
