SIDE 1

(Band 1) Narrator Phil Hill introduces Englishman Graham Hill, no kin of Phil's but also a Worled Champion Grand Prix driver. Graham describes how a formula ONe car feels to its friver and talks of his passion for racing, then lists the physical and mental properties necessary to succees in this ultimate form of motor racing, Phill Hill explains World Championship system, and describes the different types of circuits on which the Formula ONe Grand Prix are held. Then movie director John Frankenheimer tells of his fascination with Formula One racing which inspired him to make the film "Grand Prix" for MGM. Frankenheimer also discusses what he learned about Grand Prix drivers from his intensive research of the film. Graham Hill, who has also won the 500 mile race at INdianapolis, compares it with formula one racing, then describes the Grand Prix driver's gretest hazard - driving on a wet track.

(Band 2) Every Formula One engine has its own distinctive sound and Phill Hill identifies them - Jack Brabham's Repco V8, Jim Clark's Lutus coventry Climax V8, Richie Ginther's V-12 Honda and John Surtees' Cooper Maserati, as they warm up for the start of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. The next sound track is the best loved of all racing sounds, that of a V-12 Ferrari, obtained from a tape recorder mounted on Michael Parke's Formula One Ferrari as he lapped the Monza road circuit in Italy.

SIDE 2

(Band 1) we hear the start of the Monaco Grand Prix followed by a lap of the two mile circuit which twists through the streets of Monte Carlo abourd Graham Hill's V8 BRM. Whach the Monaco Circuit diagram and you can follow his progress around this tricky circuit. Phill Hill talks about formula one engines adn explains why the cars are fitted with as many as six gears and why more than twenty gear shifts per lap are necessary at Monte Carlo. Then more racing sounds from differnt parts of this most colorful circuit, which is truly the noisiest in the world.

(Band 2) Now hear the sounds of the superfast Spa-Francorchamps circuit in belgium where Formula One cars flash across the country roads at more than 180 miles per hour and we hear the noises Jochen Rindt heard as he pointed his Cooper Maserati through the treacherous Burnenville cruve at Spa, and swooped down the Masta Straight hitting a top speed of 180 mph.

(Band 3) The Brands Hatch circuit in Kent, where the British Grand Prix is held, provides a great deal of atmosphere - everything from a display by jet fighter planes before the start to the strains of a military band greeting the victor at the end of the race - and naturally the inevitable sounds of Formula One Grand Prix cars.

GORDON DANIEL The sound tracks included in this album are mainly the work of sound expert Gordon Daniel, the man chosen for what was possibly the most difficult sound editing task of all time - compounding the special effects tracks for the racing sequences of the film "GRAND PRIX". Daniel and his crew visited the Grand Prix circuits of europe to record the sounds of every type of Grand Prix car in every situation and the tracks included in this album are indicators of the quality and accuracy of Daniel's work.

BILL GAVIN who wrote the narration and produced this album, travelled the world coveringh the Grand Prix and writing about them for seven years. He arrived in Hollywood assigned to write a magazine story about the MGM film "GRAND PRIX". Director John Frankenheimer immediately realized that Gavin's knowledge of Formula One racing would be invaluable during editing and dubbing of the film. He promptly hired im as technical coassistant and assigned him the writing of the narration which is part of the film's racing sequences.
