Renault R29

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

What is different on that nose cone?

I think the holes in the previous pictures are reflections of the kers intake hole on the side pods, but I'm not sure.

I don't see anything new, either...

just wanted to say the same... the difference is somewhere else, but I guess we won't be able to see it before they repaint it (if they are to find the new nose better than the old one)

The previous nose still had some skirts painted in black. If you look just beneath the nosecam you'll see it's open. Or am I seeing things that aren't there ?

Edit: I think it's the hose of the brake coolers that tricked me.

Looks to me like the nose is the same as the one deemed illegal by tomba in the tech forum just painted gloss black all the way under the tub. you can see it reflecting the colours of the sidepod in the photo...

In case you didn't notice. They changed the sidepods.
Top -> old one
Bottom -> new one

Guesswork:
They are preparing for a similar diffusor as Williams. Therefore they need to get more air to the upper side of the diffusor by increasing the "channel" formed by the sidepods.

P.S.
Why doesn't the image tag work for that image?

Copy the 'FORUM' link which looks like this

The bold text is what you need.

Between Img tags it should look like this.

Btw, I don't see any difference on the sidepods. Its taken from a slightly different angle and the shaddows are also different.

It's probably a different chassis though. Thats what's been told by RF1. Different colour of top cam and nose antenna is perhaps the only things that reveals it? Also no 'high voltage' sticker at the latest car, so no KERS either since you must have the sticker when running KERS.

The car would look better without the shark fin.

Or is that like putting makeup on a pig?

WOW!

What did they do to the airbox intake??? HUGE undercut in that comparison pic!

Sorry, T-bar shadow makes it look undercut!

Deffinate differences to the rear of the sidepod, directly to the left of the "I" in ING. Look right below the rear wishbone location for it...

Agreed - the curve of the I is definitely different.

But I'm not seeing the differences at the wishbones...

Difficult to find two pictures from the same perspective without shadows etc. .... but anyways, I think I found something :)

new one:

If you focus on the rear suspension and the distance between the exhaust outlets and the edge of the pod, I think it becomes clear, that they tightened it a good bit.

You're right, Boris - definitely more tight...
btw - what's the purpose of those blue stickers on the rear suspension, and around the exhausts?

Temperature gauges.

They'll want to be very careful over heating up the suspension members.
