mclaren two step

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

No they are not, since that has been declared illegal in the beginning of the season. The reason to be is that eventually you would create a contious variable gearbox, which was illegal some time already.

ahh thank you tomba, was wondering about that... I must have missed that ruling because I was looking forward to seeing how that gearbox developed and whether it was a new breakthrough or a dead end (hmm remember the much lauded FDD brake system on the 00(?) Bennetton )

Do you know whether anyone has built and run a CV gearbox, I have a feeling Williams developed one in the early nineties but not sure if it ever ran in the car.....

The year was the ’93, the car a Williams Renault Fw15c, Coulthard the test driver. The CVT was a result of the collaboration with Van Doorne's Transmissie (VDT). Following good testing results the CVT was banned by FIA in ’94.
A couple of pic of the car.

I read the Racecar engineering about the Weismann Quick Shift principle, which Williams tried to use in the above car until Van Doorne came in. The "origin" of this system is in Costa Mesa, which is around 10 minutes away from where I live. Maybe I should take a visit...

Actually according to a documentary I saw a few weeks ago....CVT was banned imm August 1993....The car in the pics doesn't have the paint skeem that they used while testing. In the documentary that I saw they had the 1993 paitings.....it was wonderfull to hear...a constante RPM and the car speeding up...it was wonderfull.
