fascinating. i'm surprised a conventional rear wing was not kept, if not at least in a neutral flow-guise just for sponsorship value alone.

Not such a bad idea for Indy. They need a lot more T-boning protection than F1. The rear wings harp back to the CDW concept and wings are generally small for low downforce. This would probably not be enough for street courses like Monaco. It certainly looks new and eye catching.
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best ..............................organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)
Are they going for an oval only car and calender then?
The mistake with the current IRL car is its a bodge to make it work on roadcourses, and not well! I cant even begin to imagine the difficulties in designing a car for 200mph + oval racing then the next weekend racing at a street circuit.
This concept though certainly does look cool! A new image like this will do wonders for the sport I feel!
I thought wings over top of tires were not a good idea like the CDG showed there was too much interation between the tire and wing, and made it very unpredictable and inefficient.
Car looks kinda cool, the 16 year old in me likes it, the adult in me thinks it looks like a toy.
