I had this thought about dimples but I'm not sure about technical regulations allowing it..

dimples like vortex generators ect. are usually done as a band aid when trying to push an airfoil to far. A smooth well designed airfoil will 99% of the time be more efficient than the same airfoil with all of the dimples and vortex generators you can imagine.


The dimples on a golf ball work better because it is a terrible shape for drag and lift and the dimples help keep the flow attached a little bit longer.
