Red Bull RB7 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Why run it if you have no legal air source? What would be the future of such a system?

Could this wing cable system be active, variably restricting the wings movement?

Kind of a way of evaluating various wing ride height/flex effects without stopping for adjustments. It is not like they have a lot of test time these days.

down force gauge?

Sure a down force gage is possible, but the down-force could also be measured with strain gages at all times. This test system satisfies some testing requirement that can not be used during a normal race weekend.

The cameras are mounted on the nose cone.

An intake on the wing or endplate.

Those are good ideas, so why mess with all the extra flow channels of a nose intake when they could just go with what you propose? Something does not add up.

The nose intake is already there so they don't need to mess up some part of their highly developed wing just for a proof of concept. My best guess :D

Sorry to interject. vergne is one of the few drivers that get to drive two different cars of the same year. He has driven the Toro Rosso on fridays and now he drives the RB7 in the yound drivers test.

this is what he had to say:
"It's big fun driving the car, even if you have 120kg of fuel," he said. "You just enjoy your time because it's an amazing car to drive.

"There was a bit of everything in the programme. We did some work for team and also for Pirelli testing some different tyres."

Vergne added that there is only a small difference in performance between the Red Bull RB7 and the Scuderia Toro Rosso STR6 that he drives during grand prix weekends.

"There is not a big difference," he said. "It's just a little bit better everywhere.

"If you are one tenth quicker in every corner, that adds up to two seconds here. It is just better everywhere."
Very insightful.

Hmmmm... thanks for that, how much of the difference between the top teams and the rest is down to the drivers? What sort of times was vergne setting compared to vettel and webber?

I think what he's saying is that "it's not 5 tenths in this corner, 0 tenths in the next two corners, 1 tenth the corner after. i.e. actually it's just better in a rounded fashion; with the time delta not coming from one big chunk of the lap

Scarbs has just posted a quite exquisite piece on Red Bulls aero tests:

I think I beat you by an hour or so ... viewtopic.php?p=288797#p288797

It was also discussed in Feb, and a year before that too ;)
