Heidfeld inspired by Olympics

This Friday, the 2008 Summer Olympics will be kicked off in Beijing. BMW Sauber F1 Team driver Nick Heidfeld is fascinated by this major sports event - although motor racing doesn't represent a part of the programme.

"For me, the Olympics are something very special," says Nick Heidfeld who regrets that he hasn't got the chance of being a part of them himself as motor racing isn't an Olympic discipline. Nonetheless, the German would love to be an Olympian and battle it out for medals. "That's something I'd really like to experience," reveals the German.

Should a participation of Nick in the Olympics ever come into question, this could only be the case after the end of his career as racing driver. And in a discipline you even can succeed in "at a relatively high age," adds Nick. Several times, the 31-year old has tested his skills as marksman but to date, he admits, he hasn't quite made it "to the Olympic level. "For me, the discipline wouldn't be of major importance. It's just about being a part of this fantastic event."
