Ari Vatanen intends to challenge Mosley

Former world rally champion Ari Vatanen has publicly stated toward 'the guardian' that he intends to challenge Mosley if he decides to run for FIA president once more at the end of this year. Vatanen believes it is time for a change.

"At the moment I am consulting the member clubs and am already seeing positive feedback," said the 57-year-old Finn. "I am considering standing. I think the time has come for a change. I would go for it, even if not sure of winning."

Mosley himself has faces strong opposition recently from the FOTA, a group of Formula One teams that aim to get more control and money out of Formula One. After a deal was made with the teams to prevent a breakaway series, Mosley initially intended to not run for another 4-year term as FIA president, but has since denied to confirm.

Vatanen has previously won the WRC in 1981 with David Richards as his co-pilot and has been a member of the European parliament between 1999 and 2009.
