Alonso and Briatore confident to fight for podium places

Renault F1 Team driver Fernando Alonso and Team Principal Flavio Briatore believe that the French team is a potential podium contender for the remaining races of the season and this thanks to an aerodynamic overhaul.

Alonso says that the car has benefited from the aerodynamic changes, espcially from the double diffuser. During the German GP, the Spaniard drove the fastest lap and ended the race in seventh position.

Alonso said to the Spanish radio station 'SER': "The car felt good and from now on we can be closer to the podium. That's the goal. Two weeks ago no one would have thought we would end up harassing the Brawns or doing the fastest lap."

Flavio Briatore said: "We could have finished higher if the rain had not hurt us in qualifying, because the traffic during the race hurt us a lot, and also our start. We have a problem there and we need to fix it before Hungary. But I must say we are happy, the car was the fastest of the Grand Prix with some extraordinary times."

The Team Principal says that the team lost a lot of valuable time during winter by focussing too much on the development of KERS. "We lost an incredible time with KERS. Now we have worked hard to modify the car and are in the right direction."
