Renault victory at Singapore '08 under investigation

By on

It appears that the FIA is to launch an investigation into last year's Singapore Grand Prix. Renault F1 Team driver and two times World Champion Fernando Alonso claimed victory at the first ever night race on the F1 calendar after a crash by his team mate Nelson Piquet Jr.

Just before the crash of Piquet Jr., Fernando Alonso had stopped for fuel. At the time, Piquet insisted that the accident had been caused by himself as he was pushing too hard at the narrow circuit. But now, one year later, just after the Brazilian was dropped by the French outfit, the FIA has been given new evidence about a possible 'conspiracy theory'.

At the moment it remains unclear if Piquet was the one to give the evidence or not, but the FIA confirmed that an investigation is underway. If the evidence is found sufficient, the FIA can bring the case to the World Motor Sport Council to decide on a punishment for the French outfit.
