A pity Flavio has to end his F1 career in this way - Ecclestone

According to Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone suggested that the race-fixing scandal was only a catalyst for Flavio Briatore's exit from the pinnacle of motorsport. The two man know each other both on personal and professional levels, thus Ecclestone can give some more insight in the situation of Briatore.

Ecclestone said to the British newspaper 'The Mirror': "He (Briatore) told me recently that he didn't want to finish up like me, 'playing with racing cars' at my age, so at least he's been saved that embarrassment.

"It is a pity that Flavio has ended his Formula One career in this way; you can't defend him at all, what he did was completely unnecessary, but it's a pity that it's happened. Sometimes good things come out of bad - at least he'll have more time to pick the football team now."
