Verstappen on the edge – Horner

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner conceded that his young driver Max Verstappen was on the edge with his aggressive driving approach in last weekend’s Belgian GP. The Briton is, however, hopeful that the Dutch sensation will learn from his mistakes.

Max Verstappen was caught in the crossfire on Sunday after having shown very aggressive driving in the race against the Ferrari drivers. Many questioned the Dutchman’s approach and feared that a possible serious accident could be only avoided by the rich experience of Kimi Räikkönen and Sebastian Vettel as Verstappen tangled with the two champions on several occasions.

The one-time GP winner was also criticised by his own team boss, Christian Horner who indicated that Verstappen was lucky that the stewards let him go.

"But look, I think it was firm. It was on the edge. He got away with it, and the stewards were happy with it,” said Horner to motorsport.com.

The relatively young team boss didn’t refuse to concede that Verstappen’s manoeuvres were hard, but he thinks that the 18-year-old will refine his approach. Horner is also sure that being aggressive is the characteristic of the most talented drivers.

"I think when he looks back it, it was on the edge and obviously he got away with it. But I am sure he will have a look at it for future races."

"It was on the limit. He will learn from it. He is young, he is quick – and all the seriously ambitious and gifted drivers have that streak with them,” he is quoted by saying to motorsport.com
