Try to get some time for my own - heidfeld

During the course of his Formula One career to date, Nick Heidfeld has contested a total of 124 Grands Prix. Just as many of the other drivers, the BMW Sauber F1 Team driver diligently prepares for every race and attaches importance to minor rituals while doing so. Here, Nick describes how he spends the time short before the race.

"I always try to get some time for my own, prior to the races," reveals Heidfeld. "Quite obviously, these efforts aren't successful every time as there are many meetings and press appointments to be attended. And - of course - you also have got to eat something, before contesting a GP. Still, when I've got the time I lay down in the motorhome for ten minutes, to get some rest without being disturbed. There, I again go over everything and concentrate to then enter the race with a positive attitude."

In this period of time, Nick likes to listen to music. The German has got more than 8,000 tunes on his iPod. "My music selection is extremely varied," he says. "The main tendency is HipHop and R'n'B. Still, I also have got chill-out and pop, nearly everything apart from folk music. Currently I like to listen to older music from the 1960s, such as 'The Kinks'. I just bought a CD from them. Really, my selection features the whole range."
