Spa is a very challenging track - Kubica

This season, the BMW Sauber F1 Team celebrates its debut in Spa. Following a testing programme in July, team driver Robert Kubica also enters his first F1 GP on the 7.004 kilometre-long circuit, the longest of the 2007 Formula One season.

"I have raced in Spa in the Formula 3 and Formula Renault and am now looking forward to my first Formula One race there," Robert Kubica comments. "Spa is a very nice track, very challenging, very quick and generally one of the favourite tracks of all the drivers."

The probably most famous corner in Formula One racing and one of the fastest on the Ardennes circuit is the "Eau Rouge". This corner requires a great deal of courage as it is approached at speeds of nearly 300 km/h, and it separates the good from the great drivers. The top speed on this natural race circuit, which features a full-throttle percentage of 70%, has been timed at 317 km/h. For 23 seconds or 1830 meters, drivers push the pedal to the limit.

"After Monza, we have another track with a lower downforce configuration on the cars," Robert explains. "The configuration in Belgium is not as low as in Monza, but we should be good. I think Spa is very nice because of the long, quick corners. Normally there is very good grip there so you have to bring a lot of speed into the corners."

While the track promises a fascinating event and highest speeds, an unknown factor additionally awaits the competitors. "The weather, as always in Spa, will probably be unpredictable, so we have to see how things develop."
