I thought modern tunnels did not use struts on the wheels.

See video from BMW Sauber tunnel. At 3:01 you get a look at the model (F107) during a test run and how the model is yawed within the tunnel.

Obviously wind tunnels are pretty tricky things - have you read that Renault have also had issues with their wind tunnel? The same one that worked for them so well in previous years - so, it seems it's not just a case of getting it right once, the thing changes over time.

Personally, I enjoy Peter Windsor's articles - :D

I'm not saying that the wheels have struts, the vertical chassis strut supports both the aero load and dead load, not the rolling surface. So, it doesn't exactly replicate the race conditions and must be calculated and calibrated.

Wow, that was a joke, I didn't think they would actually have to resort to wool tufts. In any case, I think it's good even if it shows their weakness, at least they are trying to improve the car by any means.
