That is a very biased article. On the surface it appears to be logical. But this article obviously only spells out the FIA position. In other words, "The world according to Max".
Right now, Max is intent on a public relations attack on FOTA. He hasn't been able to force his way, now he's attempting via the media. Read the article, but please read other articles too, ones that articulate FOTA's position.

nothing biased about it, just the reprinting of a letter from the FIA, so the fans know where the FIA stand.

But it does link to other relevant documents at the end. Why shouldn't the fans be privy to all the documents and views from both sides to formulate their own decision?

What is wrong with all the info being out in the public arena? I would like to see a public response from FOTA also with whatever relevant documents for us to see.

Here I see where FOTA is loosing. They had to care abot publicity a lot more.

FOTA is just saying no to everything without putting any proposals out of their own. They dont have a plan to cut costs because they dont care about the small teams... The less teams there are in F1, the more money thy get from FOM. And when they are ready to leave they will do so and not care what it does to F1.

I believe FOTA have put a plan of their own forward, and will eventually hit the 40M cap the year after. They are just asking for a longer transitional period, and changing some of the sillier proposal from the FIA, and getting rid of the biggest cost magnifier that is KERS. AFAIK FIA is the one being stubborn about not backing off from their proposal at all....

You're repeating what Max says. And I don't believe him. AFAIK FOTA proposed engine/gearbox for 6.5 million euro next year.

I just did a quick cursory scan of that FIA....narative? and even I, without being a party to the current discussion between FIA/FOTA know its full of half truths, spin and out right lies. But as DK observed, it seems the FIA has decided to wage a public relations attack (now ramped up from a couple of days ago). Personally I think FOTA have played this well not responding to the FIA's attempt to provoke a knee-jerk quick response.

I too would love to see each side's true roadmap. But as I believe, all this is just an attempt by Max to put his spin on the drama, and try to divide FOTA.
FOTA's response to this recent outburst by Max is:

"FOTA, whilst reserving its position on the specific issues, does not intend to comment the FIA press release issued on the 15th of June and to be involved in a prolonged series of polemical statements that generate confusion and does not help create a positive environment for the ongoing contacts,"

This kind of talking at cross-points can go unnoticed in national politics, but it's painfully obvious here.

As far as I've seen, even on this message board, the debate has centered more around forcing this down the teams' throats for 2010 than the merit of the proposal itself.

It was also clear that if the FIA wanted new teams in 2010, it had to publish regulations, otherwise it would be too late for a new team to build a car.

See, it was supposed to be almost exactly the 2009 spec, though? Are we supposed to forget that these rules were supposed to be in effect for a while?

When Brawn and others came up with the idea of the double diffuser, the other teams attacked them in the media, challenged them in front of the stewards at two race meetings and then took them to court.

They really should've removed him over the whole Nazi thing, it was the perfect time. It would've been remembered as a speedbump between Stepney-gate and the stewards meddling late last year. I guess his escapades somehow weren't offensive enough. If he were one of the NASCAR Frances he would've been tried in the media and you wouldn't see him in any state with a race track.

The first part is a fact though. Once you get to the sub headings the opinion starts to creep in but essentially the FIA are correct in their summary that you can either restrain spending directly or restrain it via the technical regulations.

It doesn't solve the problem that the teams will find ways to spend regardless of the rules, the FIA haven't come up with a breakthrough way to enforce a budget cap. I'm sure they know of one, I can think of one but this deal is believe it or not, a compromise.

It actually makes me feel better about my own intellect that this is the what the highest authority in the world can come up with. Sadly it dosen;t make me feel any better about my paycheck
