I guess we'll need some other websites and of course FOTA to confirm this...

In other discussion I said that a compromise would be the best choice, but now I feel that the teams have lost their bigger chance to lead the series organization.
I fear that Bernie will be able to regain control in a way or in the other, maybe pushing for the election of another puppet as FIA president.
I think that if the news is confirmed teams have solved only half of the problem.

Autosport and others are now covering this.

Let's hope FOTA confirm and then we can all get on with watching the racing.

As usual, you really cannot take Max's comments at face value. But if this article is true (and it appears valid), then the bottom line is that the 40 million budget no longer exists, FOTA is satisfied, and Max will be gone in a few months time.

If you want to keep score, Max lost big time. He is trying to save face, but the truth of the matter is that he is on his way out.

Dayum, this calls for a celebration.

Big mistake by FOTA.

The same tired old crap will stagger along, and get a full airing again next year.

Eccelstone will continue to fleece the teams, circuits, fans and media... while the interference of non-technical people (i.e. FIA lawyers) in matters beyond their comprehension will continue.

Far better to have made a clean break and sort the whole thing once and for all.

I'll wait to see the full story - but what’s the betting that the FOTA threat will stand till Max has gone.

Also if the split has gone, i assume that cosworth have to get there engine down to 18000 rpm, and how long till Williams put out a statement saying they will be using it?

Yup.

I can't help but feeling FOTA have given in here. And for what? 1 single concession? That Max will leave in October? All this nonsense and hu-hah about a breakaway.. And all they really wanted, was to get rid of Max? And not even instantly, but in October? So he still gets control for the next few months?

Unless there are other major concessions that the FIA have made, I am sorely disappointed in FOTA.

But they only pledged to stay on till 2012, not 2014. This way, they can all fulfill their contracts with The Bernie.
Max out is no small feat achieved by the teams. This way, they have sent the message that they will not stand for a dictator running their sport. The other guy will definitely have to understand that.
Although I wanted a split, because that way the teams would have created a better championship, I think this is not bad either. Bernie's turn is next. But he would have to face pressure from CVC not just the teams. Ousting him would be extremely difficult. Perhaps he'll die by 2012, who knows.

If that is the case, that it's FOTA that acually has given in just for the luxury of spending as much as the want, I would too be desperately disappointed.

Letting the senseless profiteering go on, leading to preposterous ticket-prices and even more ludicrous veues, will need to be stopped and this is FOTA's chance to do so.

But I hope that is more to it, just a compromise to 2012, as jd said?

Yeah I hope there is more to it as well.

Don't get me wrong, I am pleased something has happened because it means we can start thinking about the racing for next year..

And in all truth a FOTA championship would've made things difficult for the viewers and undoubtedly the legal departments.

But I just wish there was something a bit more..Concrete.

Another concorde agreement until 2012.. I hadn't seen that jddh1, thanks.

You know what I'd really want? For FOTA to conduct their plans for a breakaway in secret, tell all the track owners and sponsors that in 2012 we will be starting a new championship. Then wait for the existing contracts to run down, and have a new championship built on what we've learnt, racing-wise, from 2009-2012.

Based on what little we have seen so far, IMO FOTA has lost. Max and Bernie win.

Getting Max to promise not to run for re-election is worth nothing, given Max's track record.

Even if Max does leave, will he pulls the string from off stage? More important, Bernie remains, and he was always far more powerful than Max.

We will continue to see F1 races scattered all over the world, based only on how much money Bernie can make. We can expect Bernie to try to collect more from race organizers and pay less to the teams -- after all, they don't need as much, because their budgets will be reduced.

At this point, FOTA is the loser.
