For what it's worth, to my mind a modern day Technical Director, or whatever someone like Ross Brawn or Adrian Newey would want to label themselves, is to organize his or hers department(s) in a productive and timeline aware fashion, while keeping the free spirits alive and kicking.

Not an easy feat, saying from living xperience as we speak, trying to get half a dozen Norwegian MSc's on the same track.

Still, at the end of the day, the words of John Barnard still rings loud and clear in my head: "If you want to call it team-work, fine, just never forget who's team it is".

To my understanding, that man is still so underestimated, as an engineer and as a man.

Maybe he's had enough of racing. Happens to a lotta folks eventually.

The days of the star designer one man show are long over but if I were pressed to attribute Brawn's success to any single person it would be to Ross. In Ross we have the most engineering minded team principal on the grid.

Newey?

I don't think Brawn have the budget for a Newey, unless he was willing to take a pay cut like Jenson in order to be apart of the success.

I think people missed what I was trying to say, Newey being a STAR designer, not moving to BGP.

I have heard a lot of critisism about Zander, never from the team, but indirectly. Considering he's moved from Toyota to BAR to BMW and back Honda\Brawn over the span of a similar number of years suggests he is not that great in a modern tech design\director role.

Thanks scarbs, enlightning that one.

Again, from a very modest outsider position, internal politics can on occation be a very difficult thing to handle, when ambitions might collide with reality.

Such as when Adrian Newey demanded a bigger role within Williams, not realizing the repercussions when his boss owned half the company?

Or, if one of my MSc's would challenge me on the properties of Al 6063. Like to see that happen.

zander, i am sure he has left for another team. His employment record is shoddy i mean he changes jobs every year/2 it seems.

I wonder what function and who will oversee his role in brawn AND if it hurts them.
