You need to compare STR with Brawn to see how the Ferrari engine did in a non KERS car. The Ferrari data are impacted by their use of KERS while Brawn did not use KERS.

I read the difference between Brawn and STR as 0.35 kg/lap. Multiplied by 50 laps that will be 18 kg at the begin of the race or 9 kg average over the whole race. Lets assume we loose 0.2 s per lap for 9 kg you end up 10 s behind at the end of the race. Not insignificant in my view.

aren't the fuel averages 2.56 for STR, and 2.525 for Brawn?

I'm doing my maths over a rough average 65 laps..

STR = 2.560 x 65 = 166.400 kg's required
BGP = 2.525 x 65 = 164.125 kg's required

so where am i going wrong?

To be fair, i'd use Red Bull, as again, no tainting of KERS on it (regardless of how little Renault used it).

and yeah, 2.440 x 65 = 158.6kg's brings a potentially notable difference all of a sudden.


I think it was Paddy Lowe that mentioned 160kg tanks at the MP4-25 launch.. that holds these figures in pretty good light!
