Edit: I see the moderators took my hint to open a thread dedicated to WWII Panzers and other military stuff.

Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best .............................. organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

Everything about the Autounion race and road cars and about their unusual engine style is welcome but please leave out that military crap. I know that xpensive is fascinated by SS-Hauptsturmführer Michael Wittmann but I doubt anybody else is.

Gotcha!

BRM, pump up the volume http://gpl.krej.cz/mp3/BRM%20-%20full%20track.mp3

WhiteBlue, just felt I should to say this.

The Schumacher, panzer, SS kind of jokes were just jokes. I really have nothing personal against you or pre-WWII German racing cars and drivers. I have high respect for everything good that origins from Germany, and same goes for any other country.

I think I've been too inconsiderate on several occasions, and therefore I apologize.

I have great respect for Wittman, however it is almost certain that he was defeated by a Hawker Typhoon, powered by the 'Napier Saber' engine which formed part of the design detail of later BRM engines.

You don't know when to stop an call it a day, do you auto?

On that sad morning when Wittmann was running for cover with his Tiger-outfit there was more then one aircraft in the sky. Many pilots returned claiming this kill, but the most credible would be the American devastator, which was there at the time with a torpedo-like thing.

All in all, this not about of germanic arrogance or myself sucking up to WB, if you can believe that for a second, but engineering realities. Those were masterful machinery when Wittman considered taking out Shermans with his 88 Kwk as a Turqey-shoot.

I can stop expensive, can you?
I do agree with most of what you say regarding the superb German engineering both then and now. I do not disrespect it, as you try to with British technology.
As to Wittman, I have access to some aerial photography of the time, gun cameras etc.
I will take a good look into it.
