Cooking, romantic paperbacks, interior design...

No, No. Racing in general and F1 specifically. For the posters who pop up needing book referrals on chassis or aero projects. If there were a living catalog of titles already...bla bla bla. Same for the history of the sport.

Ugh, you had me at romantic paperbacks until you went on about cars.

I still think that stickied threads is the way to go. You could set up a thread like the one named Engineering Student Resources, named "Literature Suggestions"(?) or whatever you like.

That's clever, I've not seen that before.

So when you click on "new posts" it shows the 15 most recent potsts? Thinking it through:

- If there were 5 new posts, the screen would show the first new post, with 10 older posts above, and 4 new below?

- What happens if there are 18 new posts? I guess you would see a page with 15 new posts, and the first new post at the top. Then click next page to see the next 3, and click previous page to see the older posts?

I assume that when you browse the thread by clicking on title, or a specific page, then the posts would be in the current order?

TheRMVR wrote:So right now the forum works like this:

There are 15 replies on every page. When a page is full, a new page opens that also fills with 15 replies before opening a new one etc. etc.

The disadvantage of that is that you can't see previous replies when a new one opens again.

The solution is (and Im surprised that this forum doesnt have it because every other forum I know works like this):

There are 15 replies on every page. But when the 16th reply is posted it doesn't open a new page but it pushes the first reply back. So every time a new reply is posted you can see the previous 14 replies.
The old ones are simply pushed back.

That might be something to think about.

Yes, that idea is good! I know that kind of forums, they are very easy to read because you don't have to go to page 2000000000 to see the latest post!
What does IDK means?? (someone) i dont know (other dude) OMG no one knows

Yes, it just always shows the 15 newest replies/posts.

So instead of just filling every page with 15 posts and then starting a new page, there would be 1 page showing the 15 latest posts. When a new one is posted the oldest one on the page is 'pushed back' to other pages. That way you can always see the 15 latest.

Are they in time order though like in the normal manner? As in is the latest post at the bottom of the page or the top?

myurr wrote:Maybe I've not explored the site enough to notice, but I'd really like a way to easily keep track of threads that I've posted in without being bombarded by emails. A 'my posts' page as you will where I can see my most recent posts and see if there have been any further posts on that thread and how many direct replies there have been. I'd like to be able to click on the title of my post to then view the forum thread from that point.

Okay checked out the 'view my posts' feature and whilst I agree it's almost there it doesn't quite work how I'd personally like. It appears to list all threads I've ever posted in that have had replies, but in the order in which those replies were posted. So in my list there are threads mentioned that I haven't read or posted in for several months, that are sat there simply because someone else has posted in them.

What I'd like is a facility where I can see *my* most recent posts along with info as to whether there have been further replies (maybe even as specifically as listing the number of replies since I last viewed that thread?).

Or am I being stupid?

Yeah, they would be in time order. It doesn't matter if they are at the top or bottom. Thats something the moderaters should choose.

So guys, lets make this work!

+1

A quick fix might be to use the existing display, but ordered according to when I last posted. The thread I most recently posted to would be at the top.

That's already possible on here. Every thread has a link for:

"View first unread post" - the little red box icon next to the title

"View Last Post" - the white box icon next to the person's name in the column on the right

Not sure if this has been mentioned on this thread yet, but I find moving avatars quite distracting and they slow down a page when loading. I would like to see all avatars have to be static.

I don't like that idea :)

I would prefer an option in your Control Panel display settings to no show animated GIF's, or to just show their first frame. This should be easily doable.

That option would ensure people like me who like the animated gifs get to see them if they want.

Everybody would be happy then.

Fair enough. They can take a while to load for me.

Use Firefox and imglikeopera plugin. You can set it to only show cached images, or images from this site only etc. I use it for browsing on the train because the wifi is a bit slow.

There is one now in the general chat forum as a matter of experiment. Any feedback is welcome obviously. ...

I like it but can you add it to the race threads as well? They would be very useful on race weekends IMO.

The race threads get a lot of traffic and the post count is very high, so the QRB would be even more useful there.

I'm loving the quick reply boxes. Getting frustrated when a thread does not have one!

It also has the advantage of people not quoting very long posts or large pics again and again. My scroll wheel is getting worn out!
