Williams the new Tyrrell?

Completely off topic, but exactly what was the point of 'shoving' a W12 motor into one of the worlds largest cars. A motor the same length as an in-line 3 cylinder. Why? Space I here you say. The engine bays on those Bentleys sure are tight! BS. Just VW marketing hype trying to push their DNA onto Bentley. Think Bentley think great 8s not Golfs.


So as for F1, how much space are we actually going to save? Half a cylinder? Seems like a waste of time if you ask me.

I may be off the mark here, and will try to substantiate the following, but I don't think Ferrari ever went for 6 years without a victory. It is true that the WDC eluded them for 21 years, but if I'm not mistaken they won a couple of constructors' titles, and they were competitive, for the most part.

They have had meagre seasons, sure, but I cannot recall them ever having had such a long dry spell.

Longest dry spell (no victories) I could find for Ferrari on F1.com was 91-92-93. In '91 they were 3rd in the WCC, and '92 and '93 were disastrous with them ending a very distant fourth both seasons. After Scheckter's WDC in 1979, they won the WCC in '82 and '83. In 1982 they lost both Villeneuve and Pironi, who were favorites for the title.

yes, the chassis is actually pretty good, the only problem is the bad drivability and the lack of power of the Cossie, i dont know if last called is already fixed though. IMO if Williams get their package right they can simply head for the podium at monza, the Cossie has incredible power, I thought it was 10HP more on the mercedes.

Well i,m not sure about that. My post was pointing out that when Williams and their engine partner have a solid foundation they tend to advance quite rapidly. I my opinion Williams need to feel the love from their partners. When they have to share with others or other projects are on the go they appear to drop the ball.

It's aerodynamics, I don't think it is too much of a simplistic assessment to say that they have been behind the game in this area since Adrian Newey left the team IMO. Williams were extremely fortunate to have BMW with them when costs were at the highest in F1 and they are also fortunate in recent years that the significance of having manufacturer support has diminished with the engine development freeze.

Tyrrell went into decline because of Ken Tyrrell's refusal to adapt and change. Tyrrell was always a racing team first and a business second, they regularly produced good cars that were underpowered and under funded.

Williams have always been very strong on the business side and they have always produced a strong sponsorship package without fail. In recent years this is very impressive and i don't think it will change.

They will be back at the front again at some point.

First you say the cossie lacks power, then you say the cossie is 10BHP up on te Merc. Which is it??

In fact, the cossie is reckoned to be down about 20BHP to the Renault, which in turn is 15 BHP down on the Merc. Cosworth are still working, with permission, on raising their power to be up to standard. If it was superior to Merc, they would not be allowed more developement, and Merc etc would be screaming for parity.
