Schumacher's defensive move on Barrichello

The difference is pretty obvious. When Barrichello got side-by-side there was a car-wide gap between Schumi and the white line. On that video in the first post Massa went for the gap that wasn't there in the first place.

Problem is, the picture doesn't show that Schumacher was not driving parallel to the white line, he was driving diagonally even before Barichello went to his right. As far as I have been able to see, Schumacher doesn't actually turn the wheel at all the squeeze Barichello, he just continues in the same direction.

That is irrelevant. He was obliged to do whatever was necessary (that includes turning left) to make sure the car on the side has enough room.
Basically if you decide to close the door, you must do it before anyone sticks his nose into it. At that point you're side-by-side and none of the drivers has the track's width to himself.

BTW, that manoeuvre by Webber was quite disgusting too. I mean, yes Massa tried to overtake in a dangerous manner knowingly going towards the pitwall and most inportantly the pit exit, but what Webber did was absolutely unnecessary. He didn't push him into the wall that much, but later he made Massa go further to the right into the pit exit lane. That could end in a huge crash with Massa driving into the back of a car exiting the pits with ~200km/h speed difference. Imagine all those debris and wheels flying with all the track personnel all around.

I don't agree with that, you can't just put your car where another person is clearly going - that is asking for a crash.

I didn't know there were any sporting regulations regarding this to be honest. That's probably why I don't agree with people on this matter
