Do you think that a highly paid driver driving for a well funded team will be more willing to take risk than a driver driving for a smaller set up with limited budget?

I think it matters more that the team has sufficient funds to cope with possible car damage, than how much the driver is paid.

freak weather aside. at any one race, there will probably be only 2 to 3 drivers that can possibly win a race

Yes, there is always a group of 3 or 4 who suddenly step up a gear and just romp off into the distance. For example, Vettel being within half a second off Alonso at every lap (or almost every lap) in Singapore 2010. By lap 20 they had a pitstop over 3rd place, and if it weren't for a safety car they would've been 50s or so ahead of 3rd place man. Kind of like Monaco 2007 too.
