I'm probably missing something here, but I just don't see a fit for the VW group in F1. Porsche's racing heritage is built on sports/protoypes, so they don't need F1 for sales/marketing. Audi is in a similar situation. VW would, IMHO, gain little in terms of sales or marketing from F1. It would be very expensive and the chances of failure -- at least near-term -- are very high (see Toyota, Honda, M-B, BMW).

Hang on a mo

what about Cosworth then? They should have a new engine by then and they've got capacity as only running two teams now

How about A BMW V6 1.6 litre turbo in their road car and F1 car maybe?!

oh oh.... you are posting on a technical forum, and also promoting a website dedicated to the V6 turbo era. It doesn't look like know very much if you get your facts wrong on basic stuff like who supplies McLaren road car engines.

I don't think VW is going to enter F1 in the near future. Not how things stand at the moment.

I also don't think Honda will be supplying engines to McLaren. Sure Honda can do with some marketing Mojo to spice up their line-up. But hybrids and electrics are the way forward for Honda.

Perhaps McLaren spoke to Honda regarding the possibility of using the now-defunct V10 engine that was originally designed for the front-engined Honda NSX for the upcoming Mega-Mac. But not regarding a return to F1.

If Mclaren can keep engines from Mercedes I think this is the best option for them. The question is if Merceds would want to supply Mclaren if there would be situation where both teams fight for WDC/WCC against each other for lets say two or more years in a row. Mclaren would seek engine supplier that has great engine and is long term commited to the sport. The best thing would be to stay on Mercedes till introduction of new v6t engines and by then there will be indications on market who made the best job with it. That will make the decision more reasonable. But on the other hand there could be some agreement before if there will be some good opportunity for them.

A Bentley F1 or a Bentley Williams would look like a nice proposition to me.

McLaren could potentially buy Cosworth at a very low price if they keep loosing customers as they do now.

Obviously with the ecconomic climate and climate change and people crying about money, Lamborghini probably wont (i hope they still do) produce another V12 Beast.

What if VW see the potential to Launch a new image for Lambo as an F1 engine supplier so as to ensure customers they are still about dirty nasty speed?

EDIT* fixed some terrible grammar
