COTA Austin - construction and infrastructure

Whiting declares CoTA 'ready to race' 25 Sep 2012

Circuit of The Americas today announced that it has been declared ready to host the 2012 F1 United States GP by Charlie Whiting, who directs racing, safety and technical matters for the FIA. Whiting visited the Central Texas racing circuit as part of a scheduled pre-race inspection and approved the circuit for “Grade 1” status, hence appropriate to host an F1 race.

What do you think of the prospect of a USGP 2012 at Austin Texas

Good thinking. Place has good infra structure and nice climate in winter.

Am I wrong that in the second photo that we see tilt ups waiting to be,,well,, tilted up?

Austin isn't "NASCAR country" any more than, say, San Diego is. This argument has been brought up time and time again by people not from here.

Good point, composite steel would be much quicker - that's what was used at Silverstone.

Looks like a great Rally track!
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

Totally unsolicited.. A friend was in Italy and stopped by Monza...
Also the access to get in there is absolutely awful (tiny roads through built up streets that make Silverstone's new A43 bypass look like a motorway straight into the circuit).

So I guess Austin will survive with poor access. ;)

pup.....Track is in Austin. Not Houston . Houston is three hours from Austin.
