That is one option WB and one that I m looking at.

Unfortunately, if there is any football on at the same time then one can forget about F1 being shown in the pub. Apparently it's our national game. Which is funny because the UK is pretty crap at football but pretty good at motorsport. Ah well...

Its not really the cost, its also the hassle of getting a satellite dish, cabling in the house, another wart on the wall, another electronic box in the living room, another remote control, and a problem with no spare HDMI sockets on my TV.

There are ways around most of your problems though. Obviously a satellite dish is a requirement but the rest can be done pretty conveniently.

Myself, I have a dish that sits in the garden, so I don't have to climb up to the roof to service it. The cable from the dish runs into a very small receiver box with remote control and a slot for the Sky smart card. It plugs into my Apple MacPro workstation and server by firewire. There are similar setups for USB 2.0. All my TVs and computers are networked. I usually use the electronic program guide to program all F1 broadcasts one week before the emission. So if I over sleep or have to leave the house I never have to worry to miss a race.

From the MacPro I can put the signal on disk or any other device I have in the house via my LAN or WLAN. This saves me the hassle to add cables or need new ports on a TV. My disk capacity is nine TB which will need a few seasons to fill even with highest resolution setting of the high def signal that I get.

I can also get the race signal from the Sky server via the internet if I'm in Germany due to my GO option. So I can watch on my iPhone or my MacBookPro when I'm in a hotel or a hot spot. I can also download it from my own home network although the upload speed is only 1.5 Mbit/s but that's ok when the server has converted it to iPhone format which it regularly does. It means I'm with an almost real time signal of at least iphone quality anywhere I am on the globe.

Is speed showing australia gp??

Speed is...2AM for me.

So speed is showing it live then? Great I have speed.

I wonder is TSN is showing it live too?

Speed shows most of the GPs. There are 1 or 2 that get shown on a major network but otherwise Speed gets them. I wish they showed all the practices. They show FP2 but not FP1 or FP3. They do show Qualifying and Race.

my problem is a little different ...I motorhome for about 6 months of the year so unless the local TV station shows the races live I am unlikely to get it

currently in portugal , just asked the local sports bar if he is going to open at 5.30 AM to show the race from OZ ; reply unprintable here

so , go to see the highlights from the BBC at 2pm ....unfortunately all the screens will be showing .....football ; that , it appears , is the only thing that people want , we F1 fans are regarded as weirdo's

so it seems the best thing for me would be to get the password to stream sky and find a hotspot ; however I don't know a single person in the uk who subscribes to sky

something for nothing would be fine if freely offered

what the uk members are unhappy about is that they pay , by law , $200 per annum to support the BBC whether or not the BBC broadcast anything they want to watch

hardly free!

If Sky does the same as in Germany they will check the ip adress and release the stream to UK addresses only.

Sounds tough!!!

You doubt cruise Europe with a trailer with a Mclaren M8F on the back do you?

Swooping in on all historic events and running away with all the silverware :)

PERFECT - then when not in the "home" the rest is in you Bond villain style lair on a Scaramanga island?

For the ones looking for the live transmission, check

http://www.digisportlive.biz/
or
http://meciuri-live.org/digi-sport-live-online/

Yes, is Romanian, but at least is more than nothing. They are broadcasting live F1 and MotoGP (usually entire weekend, meaning practice sessions, quali and races), but also GP2/GP3 (last year some recorded). Pay attention that there are 3 channels (DigiSport 1..3), so sometimes they are juggling with them when concurrent events are taking place.

Why Bernie is not introducing a proper live streaming (see MotoGP) is beyond my understanding, like it was the stupid remark regarding HD broadcast. Good to see some other series are broadcasting live, free of charge, 'cause in the end, you want exposure for your series and sponsors. I would have no chance is seeing ALMS here without internet streaming.

Good luck with a good stream tomorrow and Sunday morning!

yes , it's tough , but somebody has to do it !

if I could lay my hands on a McL F1 I might invest in a trailer for that ; though she who must be obeyed loved the sound of that ol big block V8 when she used to pedal our RV around north america ..afraid it would be beyond my towing spec now

incidentally , went and had a look at the new portimao track yesterday , looked quite good ; pre-season testing if they could get a F1 licence?

could work, but I have never tested it. You would think that they do consider such simple measures and have ways to check for it.
