Hello all,
I was wondering if any of you had a video of an F1 car locking up as it approached a corner?

i would prefer a slow mo vid, but anything is useful at this stage.

Cheers!

PS: I have tried Google etc unsuccessfully :(

Why not just look for pole laps which had lockups?

the FOM race edit from spa 2011 had a short but sweet slow motion clip of Button locking up into the bus stop while overtaking rosberg.

out of curiosity, what do you need this for?

It's likely that most any footage of Lewis Hamilton will do.

Cheers guys, will try that..

I was keen to look at the flow dynamics of a wheel rotating, sliding and rotating again..

Check 07 08 and from Hamilton.

He has started to get back to the inner front locking up but he really got famous for doing it when he arrived to Formula 1. The tires played a part in it as well.

But generally anything with Hamilton from that time will involve a locked inner tire :)

Nando's post gave me an idea as I started thinking for an outrageous outbraking maneuver by him.

Caught Kimi sleeping there :)

Probably one of his all time best overtakes. The speed he manages to carry through the corner is insane when considering the tight radius of the corner.

Most people fail to even make the corner in normal overtakes.
(not most people in F1 but motorsport in general)

Yes, but the point is not showing the overtake, it's showing the lockup.

One of the best overtakes for quite a long time I feel, it's from such a long way back it's just silly.

I wonder how tippy-toe do you have to be manage these braking to minimise look up. I speculate that the slow down leads to reduced downforce and the driver has to adjust the brake to match the reduced loading. Seems kinda tricky.

That is correct that they have to follow the brake pedal back up as you lose speed and with it, downforce. Its a nonlinear relationship too.

I suppose you can practise it, but still hats off to all f1 racing drivers for their abilities.
