Yep, it showed up in Malaysia and is still there in China. The different Motorsport magazines said teams questioned the stewards in Malaysia as they didn't think such a split in front of the rear tyre was legal. Better "encloses" the exhaust gases with bodywork guided external airflow as opposed to just blasting the exhaust away from the body of the car due to the old exhaust tip poking out of the body?hardingfv32 wrote:How about the gap above the actual exhaust pipe. What does that accomplish?

They are using cooling air from the radiators to create down-wash rather than ambient air from over the sidepods like before. Also they needed more cooling exits for this race (hence the extra gills) so it seems logical to put them there as that area will be full of turbulent air already. IMHO this spec of exhaust works very good on Sauber, that doesn't mean that works with the RB8 too, because Newey has an other construction philosophy as C31.raymondu999 wrote:That new Sauber exhaust looks like the Melbourne-spec Red Bull one. Interesting that they've gone there while Red Bull ditched it after a race; and now are perhaps thinking of ditching it entirely.
