They did not have that in the years before ..but w03 is a competitive car as it is and they seem to have the feeling the potential is there already and just needs to be understood .

I agree.

one of the worst cars on the grid at silverstone...

tyre probems seem worse than ever here so much for concentrating onunderstanding the tyres, i think thats just a BS excuse for "we havent done anything"

I'm not an expert on F1, but it seems to me that mercedes isn't so bad while using the tyres. Actually, Michael and Rosberg had a bit longer stints than other cars. I think we lack downforce and because of it we lack speed too. Unless they bring some updates to germany, the best result our guys'll have will be at most P7

Ahh Guys, today the W03 were not competative because of the SetUp work imho.
You could clearly see, that the car was so soft, guess they had tyre settings for a colder wet race.

BUT I have to admit, again, the W03 nearly get no updates. I can't see any clear develop line. I mean, their exhaust position and all is targeted to have a smooth airflow at the Coke-Bottle-Area. So they wan't to have a smooth airflow around the car, and not a lot of vortices like others with all that cascades and so on.
But the car definitly lack downforce, they talk about tyre understanding but they hasn't improve, would be interesting to see what they brought to silverstone? And what for Germany?

Schumacher clearly stated :The cars concept is not laid out for high speed cornering emphasis was on slow and medium speed corner performance.
That tells some story and shows where we can expect them to shine.

You're right. We're lacking downforce in the higher speed sections.

Truth be told, we were never going to be as strong as the Bulls/Ferrari here. We will have better chances at slow/med corner based races.

Schumachers car came alive in the closing stages enough to beat Hamilton ..so tyre degradation or wear is not worse than McLarens by the looks of things.
Discounting the bad patch -as Jet has put it- Mercedes would be 3rd of 4th in the championship by now-unfortunatelly Lotus has made a bigger step

Ross brawn is giving away the answer here:

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/101059

it is a deliberate choice they made ,throw away high speed cornering ability and gain on the slower bits.So they put their optimum efficiency in terms of aero downforce in the lower velocity regimes sacrificing df levels at high speed corners.
As the car ain´t slow on the straights .they seem to have found ways to shed drag and downforce at higher speeds only methinks.

During post-race review, Ted Kravitz reported that Ross Brawn mentioned that the first set of prime tyres fitted to Schumi after the first pit stop had 'unusual variance', resulting in his poor race pace. The second set of prime tyres did not have such problem, thus Schumi was more competitive in the last stint.

Whether it was a genuine difference between the set of prime tyres available to Schumi, or it was another excuse, remains unknown for now.
