Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

it seems that McLaren changed very much in the new side pods.

the angle of the radiators has changed. But i wonder how this could match with a bigger undercut.

The new sidepod packaging looks cleaner.

Was this big scoop present last time out? Is it scooping up internal, or external air flow, and where's it pushing it? To the starter motor hole?

I don't think it's a scoop or anything similar, but rather the leading edge of that piece of bodywork where it meets up with the one in front.

And if anything, they would most likely use gills in that area, like these;

A scoop or just an optical delusion from the side pod fairing just forward of it not being fitted?

McLaren is really back in the game, the updates works and car is clearly better. If tomorrow will be dry, then we will finally have an idea about their tyre management, because of the Hungaroring nature.

You must be kidding. A little soon on that call I believe. Was not too long ago (days?) and the same claim was being made of Ferrari. Until proven otherwise, they lucked out with the tire setup.

It looks to me with today's race the the car now has the ability to manage its tires. 30 odd laps in a hot race on a single set without falling off the cliff is pretty impressive

I thought it was rather impressive also. The fact Lewis was still putting in purple times in sector 3 in the last few laps kind of reads to me that he had a small bit in reserve if he needed it. It bodes well for the rest of the year I think.
