It appears that all Mercedes cars ran older version of FIA's ECU software in Australia:
Caterham SR623
Ferrari SR623
Force India SR621+B610
Lotus SR623
Marussia SR623
McLaren SR621+B610
Mercedes SR621+B610
Red Bull SR623
Sauber SR623
Toro Rosso SR623
Williams SR621+B610
Certainly, I asked FIA and as usual, I got no response. I can also speculate that this B610 is Build number, but anyway, that doesn't explain anything, apart from making obvious the fact that cars ran different software, for some reasons.
I will update the thread if new info appears. The original pointer for that came from Petr on Twitter.
This happened all the time with V8s. Different teams used different versions, even the ones with the same engines.

Just for reference: this isn't about the hardware, but about the software.

Are mercedes deliberately running an older ecu to mask data that would fall into Honda hands?

(I reposted this in the Sepang topic; didn't knew it was already mentioned here. Sorry Kiril!)

It looks like a sofware-only difference. Perhaps a more stable or reliable version that correlates better with specific mercedes PU hardware. I sense mclaren has a hand in this, since they developed the ecu.

NP, I was more curious than actually suggesting anything cryptic, as being in the software industry for quite some time, I've seen many issues and upsides from different software versions. I do suspect, however, that no such information shall be released public.

Check out this awesome onboard starts and first laps compilation. Really shows how awful hamilton's and vettel's engines were in the race and also a great look of how mercedes is superior to mclaren trough high speed turns at 3:37.

What's scary is how respectable Hamilton's pace was considering he was missing 1/6th of his engine.

Omnicorse.it reports that FIA accidentally limited the MGU-K of the 059/3 PUs in the first laps of the race. Full article translated in English: http://translate.googleusercontent.com/ ... quQwDnNxog

Research

This year each driver will have a three-axis, in-ear accelerometer fitted in each ear. This will give us information about exactly what is happening to a driver’s head in the event of an accident. This will be correlated with the high-speed video that we’re going to use in the onboard cameras. This is research being done by the FIA Institute in order to better understand the mechanisms of accidents.
Now THAT is interesting...

Real life test dummies.

Interesting how differently the Mercedes and the Renault engines sound. This video gives a nice back and forth comparison. The Mercedes has more of a hiss, the Renault sounds more like a tractor.
