Red Bull RB10 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It's a thread for discussing features of the car. As everybody knows, racing stripes make you go faster, so I think it's very relevant.

Back to the actual features of the car...

Red Bull has slightly upgraded nose cone with more pronounced step in vanity panel housing front TV camera.

Also according to Giorgio Piola, they are bringing brand new front-end to Canada - the solution is to be crash tested.

It's been quite some years now: why isn't anybody attempting to copy the s-duct? Obviously there must be some slight aero gain if RBR go to such lengths to accommodate all the nose elements and fit their duct there.

But not nearly enough to accommodate resources needed elsewhere. Especially when everyone is trying to find missing seconds.

We saw Daniels break in practice, and they've always supported it with some hard foam underneath in order to stop it snapping when drivers clamber out of the car. The flexing probably isn't doing much, but it's interesting how much upwash force there is in that area.

Yes it is. But how is such a part of the car governed by the FIA?

That's actually a lot of deflection there. Must be a good 5cm or so, maybe more? Are other teams doing this?

A test wouldn't be defined so it comes under the catch all of moveable aero which is expressly banned. FIA are free to enforce this as they see fit. It's codified that they can change the tests however they wish to ensure teams comply with the non-movable aero rules.

It's likely they'll be given a small telling off if it's brought to their attention (so keep talking about it ;)) and told to stop doing it.
