Scuderia Ferrari SF16-H

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

All that optimism is completely uncharacteristic from Raikkonen, which makes me wonder just what kind of gains they made...

- Speed is there, but reliability is not
- Car looks better on track then SF15T and very neutral, but still not as good as Mercedes
- Vettel and Kimi couldn't take line as tight as Mercedes drivers because it appears that front of the car is still not good enough
- Two reasons for that, front suspension setup and amount of downforce at the rear of the car because of much bigger space in coke bottle area and shorter nose. It means car is not aero balanced since rear gets more downforce, and front end doesn't follow.
- Can be fixed through the suspension, new front wing (since this one probably doesn't deliver enough DF on front) and skinnier RW (for now I guess)
- Vettel did his lap with 50kh of fuel and wasn't running 100%. PU didn't run 100% (thats why Vmax wasn't as good) in any practice session, still has some reliability problems but they will run it next week 100%
- Tires getting into right temperature faster then with SF15T
- Tires suffer from blistering which is odd given low track temps (merc has graining as well)
- According to their info, current gap would be around 4 tenths
- From what they have been said, from here to Australia no major PU changes unless some big reliability problems appear
- Felipe Massa says they couldnt follow Ferrari, especially in fast corners
i need you to post a direct link to this article ... i cant find it anywhere on the site listed
The text is based on observation of a insider guy who is on the track , he writes for F1analisitecnica but all in Italian.
I'm not sure 100% but I think this https://twitter.com/robocopj
The most strange quote from this is the last point where massa says they couldnt follow ferrari expecially in fast corners...
Please can you be more specific on the sources of this? Maybe some direct links?

The airbox area of the SH16-H looks massive, while the intake isn't that big compared to TR and Mercedes (who basically use it as a third side pod), Like it's already prepared to be opened up when the weather gets hot.

According to AMUS all Ferrari 2016 powered cars are running de tuned engines. Article says that under partial load there seem to be harsh vibrations, but fix may be coming tomorrow already as Vettel will run modified PU. Aero appears to be working as intended and Ferrari thinks they have definitely reduced the gap to Merc, while some in paddock think it got bigger.

In any case, this is exactly what we have been hearing from Italian press months ago with F1AT last month saying that they are going to run detuned engines till Melbourne, and if fix doesn't come by then, even in Melbourne. They also mentioned new gearbox that wasn't even meant to be run at Barcelona testing, there appear to be problems with that as well, but not big issues.

Anyway, lots of work for Ferrari engineers in next few days.

Yesterday it didnt look so good for Ferrari but I hope that they are not more than logic problems with a new design. Those contradictory comments from the paddock make me wonder whats the real situation in the Scuderia.

Arrivabene said something very different according to http://it.motorsport.com/f1/news/arriva ... re-676737/

Vettel today is using a new engine, the previous one has been used for 4 days and it's now being shipped to Maranello for performing dynamic tests.

3 engines gone are just a speculation. That box might be full of pasta ;-)
