From top of my head:

- V8, V10 and V12 engine configurations allowed
- 3500cc
- Power: from 650 to 750 HP
- Redline: from 10500 to 12000 rpm
- 200 liters fuel capacity, no

There where qualy tyres wich lasted 2 or 3 laps (4 sets to be used)

Not all cars had semiauto shifting

Ferrari itself quotes the 642 as 710 BHP @ 13800 rpm. The same site says the fuel tank capacity is 215l.
I am not amazed by F1 cars in Monaco. I want to see them driving in the A8 highway: Variable radius corners, negative banking, and extreme narrowings that Tilke has never dreamed off. Oh, yes, and "beautiful" weather tops it all.

The Honda used by the Tyrrell team was a v10, not the same v12 that McLaren used.. It was lighter but had less horsepower..

The same with the Judd engines:
Lotus had a V8, Dallara had a V10

I don´t know wich Ferrari engine did Minardi have.

I have an official F1 book from 1992 season and the most powerful engines where Honda V12 and Renault V10 with 750 and 740 HP respectively, so I find it weird than in 1991 they had less power, there was no sustancial engine rules changes as far as I remember. Also, maybe this data is not always accurate and only whats declared by factories.

Maybe, I know 1995 was the first year with a complete semi-auto shifting grid.

Hi Belatti, Autocourse 1991-92.

I have being collecting these every year since 1975, when I first started getting into F1, in fact it's my annual Christmas present from my Mum.

The Honda V12 produced 780BHP in '91? Wow. I know the Renault V10 in the FW16 produced 820BHP but that was 3 years later. 40BHP in 3 years isn't all that much...

From Autocourse 1992:-

McLaren 740 bhp @ 14,800 rpm (Estimated)
Williams 760 bhp @ 14,200 rpm

With reference to McLaren the Honda RA122E/B engine was a brand new engine for the year but had less power than the 1991 engine. The engine had a wider vee angle 75 degree's as opposed to 60 degree and also featured pneumatic valves, variable length induction trumpets (although the 1991 engine also featured these) and a new inlet port design which used Honda road car quick burn technology. It was not until after the Monaco GP that the 1992 engine was getting anywhere near the power output of the 1991 engine.

The 1992 Reanault engine which was designed to combine fuel efficiency with enhanced power outputs and greater torque.

Anyone know much about weight distributions in the 1989-1992 era? My best guess based on tire dimensions is about 40/60, and a fuel load would have moved the weight forward. I suppose the top teams had some ballast to play with as well. But it's hard to find real data on that.

Forti still used a manual gearbox in 1995.

Looking over this I notice many teams were running 100-150 hp down from the leaders. They had no chance to win, but I'm sure their engines were very cheap compared to the engines in the leading cars.

Then I count the number of teams. 18 teams! Lots and lots of cars!

Seems like there are two ways to try and achieve Quality.

(1) Lower the financial barriers to entry, gets lots of entrants, and only the better ones will survive.

(2) Raise the financial barriers to entry, and use the financial barrier itself as a check that only financially serious teams will join in the first place. This indirectly may lead to better teams.

We currently have only really expensive powertrains. Engine manufacturers recently stomped out an FIA/FOM proposal to simplify engines and reduce engine cost for 2021. Incumbent engine manufacturers logically want less strenuous competition, not more. So this logically implies the engine manufacturers think option (1) would lead to better quality entrants and competition.
