Thats a decent run for Vettel ..20 laps on the Med compund and quite consistant...could also be seeing at what pace they need to run to maxamise fuel saving...

digitalrurouni wrote:I am keeping my fingers crossed this year the championship positions for the constructors will not be as influenced with cars conking out in the middle of the race because of reliability issues. So far in testing other than Haas sorting out their initial teething issues and McLaren losing a day or two with oil leaks, the reliability has been good. That makes me think that the midfield fighting will be more intense. I am thinking it will be a straight fight with Merc and Ferrari, Red Bull in the top tier group with Williams landing some punches in once in a while. In my mind they are straddling both the top tier and the mid tier. The midfield will be Toro Rosso and Force India, McLaren, Renault and maybe even Manor can get in the fight on occasion with a sprinkling of Williams thrown in. And bringing up the rear will be the brand new team of the group Haas. That is sort of what I see happening down the road. I am actually a bit more excited about this F1 season than last years.

In terms of drivers Vettel will be up there as usual. I think Rosberg will give Hamilton a harder time. Kimi may step up his game too what with the steering feel probably better for him with the change in the front suspension. Masa is doing great and he will outscore Bottas I think quite handily. And of course there are the other drivers. There's no lack of talent this year at least. Melbourne can't get here fast enough.
I think u discount Torro Rosso... I think that they will be up there with Redbull and Williams for the first part of the season...with developement or the lack thereof they might fall behind...but the car looks fantastic and I think they are going to surprise a few top tier teams...plus they 2 very excviting youngsters in Max and Carlos. Haas too might just surprise all of us.. their car looks way more current and developed than what Manor looks plus they have a better driver pairing than Manor, so don't be surprised to see Haas slugging it out in the midfield

Hmm you do have a point. Agree with you on their driver lineup and the car in general. But Toro Rosso has the 2015 Ferrari motor and RB is running the 2016 Renault, no? I have a feeling the 2016 Renault PU might have a bit of an edge and considering how this is such an engine driven formula...but I am with you I would love to see Toro Rosso take it to the big guys. TR and FI are my fave midfield teams.

I'd say Mercedes will run away with it again at the beginning of the season

That's my guess, but I'd like to see a closer fight. It looks like Red Bull should be more competitive and Williams thinks it has a shot at Ferrari. We'll see in a few weeks!

It's that final stint by Hamilton that sort of gives the game away, everything else in these two tests has been neither here nor there. But that stint, its length and consistency has got to ring alarm bells at Ferrari.

All mediums apart from Kimi on hard.
