I don't say nothing... It's just different year... Who's where we will see in a month and half... For me Merc reached limit of the chassis...

BTW this year Merc must supply the same PU to the customers so they probably improved from that too...

It's my opinion, I don't say it's that way...

Winter-Test 2016 : global conclusion.

Image

With the differents informations from the media like : SkySportF1, F1i, Canal+ the timesheet etc... we can make this conclusion (not 100% sure) :

So I've applied these result in the timesheet :

We can conclude this hierarchy bearing in mind that :

We know that Renault, Mclaren and Haas were a bit struggled with the reliability. Sauber has made only 4 days of testing whereas the team Haas is making his debut. In addition Ferrari, Renault and maybe Honda (I'm not sure for Honda) will introduce a new engine in Melbourne. See Ferrari behind Force India and Williams, Mercedes only 0.1 second faster than the Williams it's very stange. Ferrari and Mercedes have probably hidden their games, and when you see the number of kilometers they did, it is likely that they did not seek performance unlike FI and Williams who told the press that they has searched performance.

Sorry for my poor english :/

Those apply to everyone.

Are you seriously trying to say that in-spite of numerous aero upgrades and two engine upgrades over the last 12 months that Merc went backwards while everyone else (including merc customers)went forwards? :wtf:
I assume you are reffering to this table:

I get your point, his post was written before this was posted.
Nevertheless, this data is difficult to interpret accurately. For instance Ferrari this year was pushing on softs much harder than on SS or US. The delta from S to US this year for them was only 0.15s while in 2015 testing ferrari S vs SS was 0.7s. Keep in mind also that the gap between S and US is supposed to be now bigger than 2015 compounds of SS vs S.
So one way to look at it is that unlike Mercedes, Ferrari in 2015 barely pushed on soft tyres at all which made them easy to substantially improve that laptime this year when they decided to focus on this compound instead of the softer ones.

And looking at the numbers it's very likely that most of the other teams except Mercedes didn't really push on softs in 2015 either. So there goes your argument.

PS. It turned out it wasn't that difficult after all. :D

yea that's the table.

I'm specifically referring to the 2015 to 2016 soft comparisons.

So like I said, in 2015 Mercedes was clearly amongst the very few if not the only ones who did representative laptimes on softs. Ferrari and most other teams weren't even trying as they were favoring supersofts (for lower fuel or high PU power runs) that Mercs didn't run at all. This year we see a completely different story with everyone trying to make their car work on softs.

Raikonen I believe had the fastest soft tire run at 1.23.009 but did a ultra soft under 2 tenths faster. If you disregard his ultrasoft run and apply the same rules as you did to those who did not run them then ferrari is no 1 in chart.

Nice work on the chart but unfortunately I think it gives a very skewed picture

Yep, not exactly what you meant, but barely anyone took SS or US seriously this year.
Some of the teams even ran slower on SS than S.

Vettel was stuck behind Massa.. It's when Massa pitted that released Vettel and we saw what the car is capable of after that Vettel too was in cruise mode as there was no point pushing as both Merc drivers were too far ahead.

In the race this year, we'll see qualifying done on the soft tyre so if the qualifying time is around 1:23 this year we'll know they didn't really gain much this year over last. Seeing as the soft is up to a second per lap faster than the medium.

Could someone tell if Force India has had the same gearbox issue like Lewis did?
It`s a coincidence or not, coz if I`m not wrong FI is the only team with a Merc gearbox (Manor has a Williams one) ...

Sorry, I forgot that Sky allowed all media having to do with testing was available even to people who didn't have it. I was only trying to be helpful.
