It can't rain all the time, so do you think we are past rock bottom?

From this day on, things will start to improve, tomorrow will be a good day PU will show reliability and improved performance.
Yawn.... after hearing this for more than two years now, it has just become wishful thinking, empty words.

They should hire you. Just copy/paste a new engine. #-o
JuanjoTS can you hung a picture on your wall in less of 15 min? on level? it is just one screw. So imaging changing the entire engine?
15 min is a way of talking, if they should improve in that aspect, it is not tolerable to change 2 engines cost 8 hours in an F1 team. There must be a way to get closer to 15 minutes than at 8 hours, it takes 2 seconds to change wheels while in a workshop costs more than an hour. When you create a piece you have to think about the ease of substitution, something that is thought too little.
PD: With the right tools I hang a picture in 2 seconds.
I don't really agree.
Ok, 8 hours might be a lot but don't forget that we are not talking here about endurance racing where the car and engine is constructed in a very modular way to save as much as time as possible to make everything accessible and/or changeable.
This is how Audi won a lot as they could perform tremendous amount of fixes in 15 minute.

what's the expression ...."Can't get much worse!"

I feel slightly better knowing it was the same MGU-H problem they've had all weekend.

I'm a massive fan of McLaren Honda like anyone else, but when you look at Ferrari and Merc, they have done all their talking on the track.

Honda having a good engine seems a pipe dream in comparison. They are underpowered AND unreliable.

I think it's a valid question to ask what on Earth your prediction is based on?

2 sec on level, not change but feel free to share a video of it
Change a box, holes, cleats and screws already put, if you are not able to change it in 2 seconds ..... If I have to put the tacos, bolts and level it 10 seconds maximum.
As Churchill would say ... one day the trolls will accuse the others of trolls. Would something happen if they copied positive things from the endurance championship?

I don't recall making any prediction, other than eventually they'll make a good engine. When everything goes according to plan nothing can go according to schedule.

Guys and girls, I extracted the speeds from the telemetry overlay in some of the onboards from qualifying in China, and plotted them:
How did you extract the data?

Looks like the Mercedes data could be stretched a little bit to the right but otherwise is very interesting! Doesn't appear to be much different between Mclaren Honda and Renault, very evenly matched.
I got the onboard video and extracted the frames, then manually recorded the speeds. I tried to align the speeds based on the references from the track, but as you note, the traces are not properly aligned in the 2nd half of the lap...the one I posted was put together quickly, so it's a rough draft if you like. Still the apex speed differences can be judged, so I think it's helpful information to evaluate the chassis. It is also possible to construct a throttle/brake telemetry like that using other methods, but it is more laborious...and I'm not good at coding so, it's even worse. :(

One thing I noted was despite the McHonda being quicker in the high/midspeed corners than the Renault, and the Renault being quicker in the low speed ones, the McHonda loses most of the time in the long acceleration zones and top speed. The Mercedes/Ferrari were able to sustain cornering speeds 5 km/h faster than McLaren/Renault in turn 7, which speaks to the downforce deficit that these teams face to the top teams, I guess.
