Well, Bernie nearly did, didn't he? If Donningtons management were a little bit more professional, we'd be in for a nice rollercoaster ride! Love that track.

F1 would have ruined Donington. Same with Brands Hatch.

If you love a traditional circuit then don't wish for it to be an F1 track...

You're probably right. They would dump --- loads of concrete into the country side and call it run-off-area. Not that I am against safety precautions. I just think the gravel traps of old did a much better job. So if you made a mistake you were out of the race...and madly threw your steering wheel out of the car, hahaha.

Can't they somehow claim that it is part of the exhaust?

The rules state that there cannot be any apertures in that area except for suspension, driveshafts and only one exhaust aperture each side.

In the Ferrari thread, they say those gills are actually all one opening and you can see the tiny gap allowing them to say that in this thread:

The track at turn 14 where the new section comes back to the old layout looks like a rally track. Cars get completely out of control and the wooden plank bottoms out on most.
