Having Mercedes as a German team with an all German driver line up, German GP is the home race for Mercedes. Last year it took place at Nurburgring. The last time at Hockenheimring was in 2008 when Hamilton won the race. But this year Red Bull has the best car and it will be exciting to see how they will cope with this track.

The long straight doesn't suit Red Bull particularly. This track requires probably Valencia levels of downforce. Most racing series are already going flat out after the fourth turn into the parabolica, so I have a feeling Mclaren will be particularly strong there. As for the rest of the lap, the first turn is very high speed, and particularly tricky to get right. The rest of the lap after the hairpin has one flat out corner, a tricky braking zone, followed by a combination of turns that are very tricky to put the power down. This is followed by a very fast right hander, Red Bull might be able to take this with a slight lift, others may have to brake a little.

The rest of the course is low/medium speed at best except for that final turn, we shall see. I think Mclaren can win it(Hamilton is magic around here), provided they get a handle on their updates. If Ferrari manage to develop the car a step further, and their luck turns around for them + they have a good qualifying, then they can win as well. Realistically however, it's Vettel who probably has the best chance of winning as Webber doesn't really go well around here.

Wasn't last year's event at a different circuit?

I think that posting the results of the last race at the same venue is perfectly acceptable.

A Schumacher win would be good but unless Merc pull a new car out the bag or there is torrential rain and mehanical failures/crashes for the faster cars he hasn't a hope. Top 5 at best sadly.

The old style track used to be really good and a real test of the machinery. The new version is just another track now since Tilke got his crayons out.

The old version was kind of boring if you ask me, especially the run through the forest. It was just stop and go, the new version is a lot more technical and demanding from a driver's point of view. Not that driving fast and slowing for chicanes isn't demanding.

It would be really demanding if there no chicanes in the old circuit period, only the twisty bits in the infield. There would be plenty of overtaking, because of the Monza levels of downforce.

I was brought up in the area ,going to school in hockenheim...but really I´m sad the old track is gone it was really awesome to watch and hear! those cars at 300somethings going down those straights.. the sight of Berger taking to the grass at that sort of speed to overtake a backmarker is a reason for instant goosebumps..thanks, Gerhard... [-o< .. I only had a single race on it ,my driver bagging 3d place after starting from the back after engine failure in free practise and 2 allnighters to build a new engine....so it was a track famous for boring races as well as big drama...and not only for me .
now it´s one more track ...and not that special anymore... what is beyond me is the fact that tilke is racing every other weekend on the nordschleife... how can you race there and build this crap everywhere..

From http://en.espnf1.com/greatbritain/motor ... 23074.html:
Schumacher also revealed he is hoping to race a new W01 chassis as soon as possible in order to rectify his handling issues.

"I was hoping to get a new chassis at Hockenheim as I have been driving the current one for a long time," Schumacher told German Sky television. "But it [the new car] will probably only be ready for Spa."
Let's hope for much improved result from Schumi! [-o< He really deserves it after several races without much luck.

Hockenheim has not many quick corners so you would like to run more downforce if there was not that long backstretch ....hockenheim is notorious for bumps in braking zones ...so ability to soak up the bumps is also somrthing to consider.
the lack of really quick corners might have an impact on those who struggle with tires..but thinking aagain ,there are two ..the Nordkurve (turn 1)and the one leading into the stadium...both right handers this one changed names so often I don´t remeber its current name ...
so I m unfortunatelly not convinced that mercedes will have one of their better weekends...but hey I´m more than happy if they prove me wrong....
It is Redbull and Hamilton battling for pole...
